Hockey legends in town for big 7:30 pm charity game tonight to benefit Kris Perani Foundation
FLINT — Don't be surprise to see some legendary faces around town today. Former stars of the Flint Generals pro hockey club will convene at Dort Federal Credit Union Arena tonight at 7:30 pm for a fundraiser game to raise charity for the Kris Perani Foundation.
Kris Perani was the late wife of the late Bob Perani, who became Flint's first hockey star on the first pro team in 1969. He went on to be a successful businessman in the community.
His son, Robert Perani, has led the foundation that honors his mother's name to offer scholarships since 2007 to youth hockey players that are financially disadvantaged and need support to be able to enjoy the sport. The foundation has donated more ver $100,000 to area kids.
Tonight's charity game will feature retired Flint Generals' stars in a game against the Genesee County All-Stars formed by Rico Phillips. The local firefighter is a well-known hockey referee who is also involved with promoting an annual high school alumni tournament and an inner-city youth hockey program.
Phillips appeared this monring on ABC TV 12 to promote the charity game with former Generals' Coach Robbie Nichols.
They said some of the stars expected on the ice tonight include Lorne Knauft, Steve Brochu, Jim Duhart, Chad Grills, Keith Whitmore and Todd Humphrey,
Phillips said there will be auctions for various paraphernalia, including an autographed jersey of Detroit Red Wings' star Dylan Larkin and an autographed stick of Red Wings' goalie Petr Mrazek.
Tickets are priced at $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. Parking is $10.
