Only returning MSU basketball big man out; Senior star Gavin Schilling needs knee surgery
EAST LANSING — The Michigan State Spartans revealed Wednesday that their only returning big man may miss the entire season because of knee surgery. Gavin Schilling, a 6-foot-9 senior, is the second key player to go down. Another forward, transfer Kenny Goins from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas also went down with a knee injury during training camp and needs surgery as well.

3 past National Player-of-the-Year winners to play in Alumni Game as Steve Schmidt gets his Mott Bears get ready for 2016-17 hoop season
FLINT — The program's three National Player-of-the-Year winners are expected to be on hand tonight when Flint's Mott Bears basketball team stages its Alumni Game. The 7:30 pm exhibition game will be at Ballenger Field House on the campus of Mott Community College in Flint where Coach Steve Schmidt has led his Bears to four national championships and two other appearances in the national championship game.

Delta visits Wednesday at Ballenger Field House to face Mott in MCCAA battle of one loss teams
FLINT — The Mott Bears have a big battle Wednesday night at Steve Schmidt Gymnasium inside Ballenger Field House on the campus of Flint's Mott Community College. It will be a 7:30 pm battle of once-beates teams in Eastern Conference action between the two Michigan Community College Athletic Association teams when Delta Community College visits Flint. Michigan nearly pulls upset over Big 10 hoops leader at Wisconsin
MADISON, WISCONSIN — The Michigan Wolverines blew a late 8-point lead in a near upset at Wisconsin Tuesday night over the Big Ten Conference leaders. The Badgers used a 12-0 run to eventually win 68-64 to remain on top in the Big Ten standings with a 4-1 record. Michigan was trying to even its conference record at 3-3.
EMU nips Western Michigan 86-80 behind sophomore star's big night
YPSILANTI — Eastern Michigan University stayed in a first-place tie in Mid-American Conference men's basketball Tuesday by beating arch rival Western Michigan 86-80 in Ypsilanti. EMU is 4-1 and tied with Ball State for first place in the MAC's West Division. EMU was led by sophomore James Thompson IV of Baton Rouge who was 10-of-12 from the floor with a season-high 26 points to go with 11 rebounds.
CMU loses 98-83 at Ball State but Marcus Keene fires in 29 points
MUNCIE, INDIANA — Central Michigan's Chippewas faded after a strong start and lost 98-83 to Ball State Tuesday night on the road in Mid-American Conference men's basketball action. They were led by Marcus Keene's 29 points which came despite playing on an injured ankle. Keene is the leading scorer in the nation for the Chips who fell to 1-4 in MAC play and 11-7 overall. Braylon Rayson added 20 points and David DiLeo 14 points as CMU drilled a season-high 17 3-pointers.
