​Michigan Wolverines win 32-23 over Michigan State in very sweet rivalry revenge game

  EAST LANSING  — The Michigan Wolverines stayed perfect at 5-0 in Big Ten Conference football play and 8-0 overall by beating Michigan State 32-23 Saturday in East Lansing. The victory marked sweet revenge as they avenged last year's last-second loss in Ann Arbor on a botched punt during their first season under new Coach Jim Harbaugh. The victory also stopped a three-game winning streak in the rivalry game which had been won seven times in the last eight years by MSU.

​UM, Western and Grand Valley State continue today on paths to college football perfection

  The Michigan Wolverines, Western Michigan Broncos and Grand Valley State Lakers try to go to 7-0 in college football today as they continue their bids for league championships. The Big Ten Conference's Wolverines play at home against a 2-4 Illinois team today at 3:30 pm in Ann Arbor. The game will be televised on the Big Ten Network. Western Michigan, off to its best start since 1941 and ranked in the top 25 for the first time in program history, also plays at 3:30 pm on ESPN 3 against Eastern Michigan which has only one loss in Mid-American Conference play and is 5-2 overall. Grand Valley State plays today at Hillsdale in a 2:30 pm kickoff as they try to stay perfect in GLIAC play.

​Michigan Wolverines roll 59-3 at Big House over Maryland for perfect 9-0 college football record 

  ANN ARBOR  — Any upset hopes evaporated before halftime as Maryland's football team fell behind 35-0 and was crushed 59-3 by the Michigan Wolverines here Saturday in front of more than 100,000 fans at the Big House. They stayed perfect at 6-0 in Big Ten Conference football play and 9-0 overall behind record-setting days for Jake Butt and Wilton Speight. Butt  became the UM's all-time leader in tight end receiving while junior quarterback Speight threw for a career-high 362 yards with a p program-record 292 coming in the first half.

​Lowly Rutgers perfect medicine for MSU's Spartans to get well

  EAST LANSING — Rutgers was the perfect medicine to help Michigan State's football team get well here Saturday at Spartan Stadium in East Lansing. The Spartans rolled to a 49-0 romp to end their seven-game winning streak in a battle of 0-6 Big Ten teams.

​Last-second field goal at Iowa knocks UM from unbeaten ranks

  IOWA CITY, IOWA — A last-second field goal beat the Michigan Wolverines 14-13 here Saturday night as the Iowa Hawkeyes shocked the college football world with a huge upset in  a nationally televised game on ESPN. Michigan came into the game 9-0 and ranked No. 2 in both major polls. Iowa brought a 5-4 record into the game and was coming off its worst performance of the season against Penn State.

MSU Spartans whipped 54-40 in East Lansing by visiting Northwestern in 4th straight loss

  EAST LANSING  — The Michigan State Spartans, one of college football's best programs during the past five seasons, were whipped 54-40 by Northwestern here Saturday at Spartan Stadium. It was MSU's fourth straight loss and left them 0-3 in Big Ten Conference play. The Spartans haven't lost four in a row since 2006 and they had not surrendered more than 50 points to an opponent since 1995.

   A former Flint Journal sports writer told The Morning Gazette Radio Show today that widespread national reports are not true about Michigan Wolverines quarterback Wilton Speight breaking his collar bone.  Adam Biggers, who now covers the Wolverines for, told Mike Killbreath's morning news/talk show on CCN Radio that he has no idea how the inaccurate reports became national news yesterday. Click Here to Read More

​MSU Spartans try to get on track at Maryland before big UM game next week in Ann Arbor

  The Michigan State Spartans try to end their four-game losing streak tonight at Maryland in their final tune-up before next week's big Michigan-Michigan State football game.  MSU is 0-3 in Big Ten Conference action and 2-4 overall while Maryland sports a 4-2 overall record but is 1-2 in Big Ten games. Tonight's game at College Station in Maryland will be presented on the Big Ten Network at 7:30 pm.

​Michigan State Spartans fall 31-27 at Illinois for worst football start since joining Big 10 

  CHAMPAIGN, ILLINOIS  — Michigan State lost 31-27 here Saturday at Illinois for its worst football start since joining the Big Ten Conference in 1953. It was MSU's seventh straight loss overall and longest losing streak since losing the last game of the 1981 season and the first seven under Muddy Waters to start the 1982 campaign. Both teams came into Saturday's contest at Champaign with 2-6 records.
