​Detroit breweries grab top honors at annual prestigious event
   DENVER, COLORADO  — Breweries from Milford and Ann Arbor won Gold Medals here at the prestigious 30th annual Great American Beer Festival which drew a record 7,227 entries last weekend across all 50 states and Washington, D.C. The event is considered the top festival for judging U.S.-made beers, and Detroit's big winners were among 10 Michigan breweries to get honors.

​   Gold Medal winners were Dirty Frank Stout by River's Edge Brewing Co. of Milford in the "Export Stout category" and Raucher by Wolverine State Brewing Co. of Ann Arbor in the "Smoke Beer" category.

   Silver Medal winners from Michigan included Expedition Stout by Bell's Brewery of Comstock in the "Aged Beer" category and reDANKulous - Backstage Series by Founders Brewing Co. of Grand Rapids in the "Imperial Red Ale" category.

   Bronze Medal winners  from Michigan included Broadway Light by Detroit Beer Co. of Detroit in the " American-style Cream Ale" category, Bangin the Mash by Latitude 42° Brewing Co. of Portage in the "Classic Irish-style Dry Stout" category, Live Wire by Roak Brewing Co. of Royal Oak in the "English-style India Pale Ale" category, Küsterer Original Weissbier by Cedar Springs Brewing Co. of Cedar Springs in the "German-style Wheat Ale" category, Good Mooed Milk Stout by Railtown Brewing Co. of Dutton in the "Sweet Stout or Cream Stout" category and Angelina by Brewery Vivant of Grand Rapids in the "Wood- and Barrel-aged Sour Beer" category.

   Awarded as "Very Small Brewing Company and Very Small Brewing Company Brewer of the Year" was Brown Truck Brewery of High Point, North Carolina and awarded as "Small Brewing Company and Small Brewing Company Brewer of the Year" was Überbrew of Billings, Montana.

   Awarded as "Mid-Size Brewpub of the Year" was Boxing Bear Brewing Co., of Albuquerque, New Mexico and awarded as "Mid-Size Brewing Company of the Year" was Karl Strauss Brewing Co. of San Diego, San Diego, California.

   Awarded as "Large Brewing Company and Large Brewing Company Brewer of the Year" was Pabst Brewing Co., of Los Angeles, California and awarded as "Large Brewpub and Large Brewpub Brewer of the Yea" was The Austin Beer Garden Brewing Co., of Austin, Texas.
